California First Time Home Buyer Grants

So, you are considering the purchase of a home in California. Purchasing a home in any state is an exciting prospect! Exciting and sometimes daunting!

Before we get to the topic of California first time home buyer grants, I would like to give you some fun facts about your chosen state. (If you are relatively new to California, I don't want you to look too much like a tourist!)

• "Around 200 buffalo roam on Catalina Island, descendants of a few taken there in the 1920s for a movie and left there."

• "In Arcadia, peacocks have the right of way to cross any street, including driveways."

• "Fresno, California, is the Raisin Capital of the world."

• "Approximately 8% of Californians are vegetarians."

• "California's Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the continental U.S. at 14,495 feet."

• "The Palm Springs American Legion Past dining room permanently maintains a table for one. It is set for dinner and no one is allowed to use the table. It is being maintained for a Missing in Action or Prisoner of War serviceman or woman when he or she returns home."

First Time Home Buyer Grants California

To begin with, unfortunately, the State of California does not offer a California first time home buyer grant program for its residents.

Other Home Mortgage Grants

However, the good news is that the federal government does offer grant assistance for first time home buyers in California. This program is maintained by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is called the Homes and Communities program.

Another website I would recommend that you view is Visit the Government Grants. This website offers a list of all federal government grant programs. It would be a good idea to take some time and browse through this site to see what it offers and the qualifications for application.

It is important to note that there is a plethora of local first time home buyer grant programs available from specific counties and organizations in California.

Don’t forget the importance of your credit score. Even if you qualify for a grant, you still have to qualify for a loan. See my information on credit repair made easy if you need help.

If you don’t qualify for a grant you may qualify for down payment assistance. They are sometimes easier to obtain.
