Credit Repair Software, Does it Work? Where Can You Find it?

Credit Repair Software 101. So, you've made a few financial boo-boos and now you want to repair your credit. Good for you! You can save yourself money by doing this yourself and, despite what many may tell you, you can do the exact same thing that any company or individual can do on your behalf! You've made a good decision!

Instead of re-inventing the wheel by drafting your own form letters to use when dealing with the three major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax), you should consider some software to help pave the way. Just as Cinderella's fairy godmother used her magic wand to make dreams come true, you can use credit report repair software to make yours come true!

To accomplish this task you should look for some inexpensive or free credit repair software to help you. A quick internet search turns up several options. I found several inexpensive software packages which can be downloaded from the internet. These software packages range in price from $24.95 to $99.97. These credit report repair software packages usually provide step-by-step instructions as well as form letters to be used when challenging credit report entries. Many of these credit report repair software packages offer a free trial period prior to purchase.

In addition, there is free credit repair software available over the internet. One company offers a free program entitled "Credit Card Crusher" which, according to the website, "is a simple learning tool which illustrates the real cost of carrying high-interest debt. Simply fill in your current credit card debt. Crusher will then analyze your debt and show you the real carrying cost--in terms that are concrete and meaningful." This would be a useful program if you have high credit card debt. It would show you what you are really paying when all is said and done.

This same company offers a free program entitled "Credit Repair Planner." Again according to the website, this software "helps create an optimized repayment schedule which factors in credit improvement. The concept is simple: pay off the highest-interest cards first while bearing in mind that carrying in excess of 50% on any revolving credit line dings your credit score." Again, this would be a good program for setting up a repayment schedule to rid yourself of your credit card debt.

Please keep in mind that I have not used any of these programs nor am I promoting any software package over another. I am merely letting you know what is on the market. For myself, I've never needed credit repair.

There are some things you should keep in mind as you work toward restoring your credit:

- You should first obtain your credit report from all three credit reporting bureaus.

- Only inaccurate information can be removed from a credit report.

- Negative entries on your credit report remain a part of the record for at least seven years from the date they were reported. A bankruptcy can remain on your record for ten years.

- Do not attempt or agree to create a new credit file. THIS IS ILLEGAL!
