First Time Home Buyer Tips

Hi,

My husband and I want to buy a house. Could you please help us understand how the whole home buying process works?

We were in market and searched a few houses online. We also liked a few.

What do we need to know before actually contacting a Realtor or looking at a house?

What tips would you give us?

Thanks in advance,

Sonia

=====ANSWER======

Hello Sonia,

Thank you for stopping by my site and asking me some questions. I encourage this since the entire site is devoted to the first time home buyer.

Wow! Where do we start? Well that fact you are here at my site looking for information is a very important step in the overall process.

As a first time home buyer, it all starts with looking at the ourselves and our credit. Only you can answer these questions below.

You should be asking yourself questions like;

  • How much home can we afford? Use this calculator to help you. Rent or Buy?
  • What is my credit score? You may find this page helpful for that question, First Time Home Buyer Credit.
  • Do I have any blemishes that would cause me to have to do some credit repair? If you find you need help here, this page can offer suggestions, Credit Repair.

That should get you started. Then once you find out if you can afford the home and if you have the credit scores of 620 or above for both you and your husband, then you may be ready to apply for a mortgage.

Personally I believe the FHA home loan is a great choice for first time buyers. The question is which one?

So this page Best FHA Home Loans may be helpful to you as well.

When you get to the point where you will be applying for a mortgage you want to know the mortgage process. So ask lot's of questions and be sure to do your homework.

When you have been pre-approved for a mortgage (which means you have completed a mortgage application online or in person) then it is time to talk to the realtor.

Hopefully you have found this helpful. If so, would you do me a favor and use the buttons at the bottom of this page and share this information with people you know on FaceBook and Twitter?

I need a a little help getting the word out about my website.

Thansk again,

Jeff Ragan
