How do I get a home when I have a bankruptcy?

by gina
(clawson)

We want to buy a house but we filed for bankruptcy. It's all done now. But we really want to buy a duplex. My husband is going to school. Is this going to be possible?

---ANSWER---

Hi Gina,

Thanks for stopping by and asking a question like this. I welcome all questions.

How long has it been since the bankruptcy? Has it been over 2 years? If so, do you have new credit established?

Lenders in today's mortgage market are not so quick to pull the trigger like they were a few years back.

However, if it has been 2 years since the bankruptcy and you have established a few lines of perfect credit history, then yes you may be able to buy a house.

I would need to understand your situation better before giving you a more definitive answer.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Thank you for the information. It is so good to know it's not impossible to get a home if you have bankruptcy in your past.
