First Time Home Buyer, Do You Know Where To Begin?

Hello first time home buyer, I’m glad you came by for a visit. If you came to this website looking for loads of information on home loans, grants and zero down payment programs, you landed at the right place. Or, perhaps you’re looking for a good mortgage calculator to figure a payment.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Ragan. That’s my ugly mug shot to the right. Ugh…. I hate wearing a tie!

The reason I built this website is 2-fold. First and foremost, you need reliable and accurate information.

Second, I want to help you understand the mortgage process so you can have a pleasant experience as a new home buyer.

My First Time Home Buyer Personal Experience

I bought my first home in 1978. It was a HUD foreclosure home. Man was I excited. You know the feeling, because you’re looking right now. As a new home buyer, I was scared. I had questions like:

• How can I be sure that I can afford this home?
• What’s my credit score?
• What’s a first time home buyer loan? How does it work?
• Who can I turn to for reliable help?

I was just 23 years old, newly married, we had a brand new baby girl. I had a good job, but I was in debt up to my eyeballs, which is why the concern about affording the home. One thing I remember is that I knew I wanted to buy a house.

At least I understood that renting was a total waste of money. Why should I be paying the landlord’s mortgage payment anyway? I might as well be making my own house payment!

So, even though afraid of the unknown, I moved forward. My experience was a good one. The person who was selling the house was a builder who had bought it from a bank.

He took me through the house (which was all boarded up) with a flashlight. There was no power, no heat, broken windows, holes in the wall. He had prepared me for what I was about to see. The house was trashed.

I know it was a good thing my wife was not with me. It likely would have turned her stomach. But at least I had some vision. The seller told me he would paint everything, fix the walls and windows, replace the carpet and it would be just like a new home. So I ....

Sorry, I guess I’m just rambling down memory lane and I just brought you, the first time home buyer with me.
