Missouri First Time Home Buyer Grants

You are ready to buy that first home in Missouri? That is wonderful and a great financial step in the right direction! Buying that first home is an awesome experience but it can also be very exhausting!

However, don't let yourself become overwhelmed with the process. It is my plan to give you some useful information in this article about first time home buyer grants which will help you get that needed down payment.

Before we get to the topic of Missouri first time home buyer grants, I would like to give you some fun facts about your chosen state. (If you are relatively new to Missouri, I don't want you to look too much like a tourist!) These facts were obtained from the State of Missouri’s official website.

  • On May 31, 1995, the Missouri Mule was designated as the state animal. "The Missouri Mule was used to pull pioneer wagons to the west in the 1800s." Additionally, for many years, Missouri raised the most mules.

  • The Flowering Dogwood is the Missouri state tree. It is small in size and can be seen all over the state. During the spring, the Flowering Dogwood produces pink or white flowers and, in the fall, the state tree produces a red fruit.

  • On May 23, 1997, the paddlefish was designated as the state aquatic animal. It can grow to be in excess of five feet (5') long. The paddlefish weighs more than sixty (60) pounds and can live more than thirty (30) years.

  • "The Bluebird was named the state bird on March 30, 1927. These birds have red, white and blue feathers. They are a symbol of happiness. The Bluebird can be seen in Missouri from early spring until late fall."

  • "The fiddle was named the state musical instrument of Missouri on July 17, 1987. In the late 1700s, the fiddle was the only source of music in many towns. The fiddle can also be called a violin. The name used depends on the type of music that is played."

    Sounds like a good place to put down some roots!

    Although most of you were probably born and raised in Missouri and already know about your state, so read on for information related to the Missouri first time home buyer grants program.

    Missouri State Grants

    The State of Missouri does offer a Missouri first time home buyer grant program for its residents. This is good news because not all states are able to offer assistance to first time home buyers. The state agency which maintains Missouri's first time home buyer grant program is the Missouri Housing Development Commission. Missouri currently offers one type of grant. This grant is called the "First Place Loan Program". This grant can provide cash assistance of up to three percent (3%).     Keep in mind that the grant process can be very time consuming, so be patient and allow yourself plenty of time to complete the process.

    Federal Grants

    In addition, the federal government offers grant assistance for first time home buyers in Mississippi. This program is maintained by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is called the Homes and Communities program. Their website contains useful information and applications.     Another website I would recommend that you view is Government Grants. This website offers a list of all federal government grant programs. It would be a good idea to take some time and browse through this site to see what it offers and the qualifications for application.

    Don’t forget the importance of your credit score. Even if you qualify for a grant, you still have to qualify for a loan. See my information on credit repair made easy if you need help.

    If you don’t qualify for a grant you may qualify for down payment assistance. They are sometimes easier to obtain.
