Before we get to the topic of New Mexico first time home buyer grants, I would like to give you some fun facts about your chosen state. (If you are relatively new to New Mexico, I don't want you to look too much like a tourist!) These facts were obtained from the official State of New Mexico website.
The Colorado Plateau consists of rugged table and topography typical of this eco region. "Canyons, mesas, plateaus, and mountains expose a long geologic history of rock formations. Precipitous side-walls mark abrupt changes in local relief, often of 1000 to 2000 feet or more."
"The Santa Fe trail was an historic 19th century transportation route across southwestern North America connecting Missouri with Santa Fe, New Mexico. First used in 1821 by William Becknell, it served as a vital commercial and military highway until the introduction of the railroad to Santa Fe in 1880.
At first an international trade route between the United States and Mexico, it served as the 1846 U.S. invasion route of New Mexico during the Mexican-American War. After the U.S. acquisition of the Southwest, the trail helped open the region to U.S. economic development and settlement, playing a vital role in the expansion of the U.S. into the lands it had acquired."
"The first known inhabitants of New Mexico were members of the Clovis culture of Paleo-Indians. In fact, the culture is named for the New Mexico city where the first artifacts of this culture were discovered.
Later inhabitants include Native Americans of the Anasazi and the Mogollon cultures. By the time of European contact in the 1500s, the region was settled by the villages of the Pueblo peoples and groups of Navajo, Apache and Ute."
Congress admitted New Mexico as the 47th state in the Union on January 6, 1912. The admission of the neighboring State of Arizona on February 14, 1912, completed the contiguous 48 states.
"The United States government built the Los Alamos Research Center in 1943 amid the Second World War. Top-secret personnel there developed the atomic bomb, first detonated at Trinity site in the desert on the White Sands Proving Grounds between Socorro and Alamogordo on July 16, 1945."
All right, that was fun! (Some might say explosive!) However, I'd better stop now or else I'll never get to the New Mexico first time home buyer grants program.
