Are you considering the purchase of a home in Oklahoma? Purchasing a home in any state is an exciting prospect!

Exciting and sometimes daunting! However, don't let yourself become overwhelmed with the process. It is my plan to give you some useful information in this article about first time home buyer grants which will help in this exciting adventure.

Before we get to the topic of first time home buyer grants, I would like to give you some fun facts about your chosen state. (If you are relatively new to Oklahoma, I don't want you to look too much like a tourist!) These facts were obtained from the State of Oklahoma's official website.

  • Oklahoma's state animal is the Buffalo and the state furbearer is the Raccoon.

  • The state reptile of Oklahoma is the Collared Lizard and the Bullfrog is the state amphibian.

  • The strawberry is the state fruit of Oklahoma and the watermelon is the state vegetable.

  • Oklahoma's state flower is the Oklahoma Rose and the state wildflower is the Indian Blanket. "The Indian Blanket, or Blanket Flower, is a daisy-shaped flower with red petals tipped with yellow."

  • The state rock is the Rose Rock. "These rare rocks, sometimes called 'Cherokee Roses' are only found in Oklahoma. Their red coloring and petal-like shape resemble a rose."

    Sounds like a good place to settle down (to some strawberries and watermelon on a hot summer's day).

    If Oklahoma is your choice, read on for information related to the Oklahoma first time home buyer grants program.

    To begin with, the State of Oklahoma does offer an Oklahoma first time home buyer grant program for its residents. This is good news because not all states are able to offer assistance to first time home buyers. The state agency which maintains Oklahoma's first time home buyer grant program is the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency. Oklahoma offers one type of grant. This grant is called "1st Gold". Whether you qualify or not will depend on the amount of your income. This grant was implemented for first time home buyers who are having trouble coming up with the funds for a down payment or closing costs. You should visit this website to determine your eligibility.

    In addition, the federal government offers grant assistance for first time home buyers in Oklahoma. This program is maintained by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is called the Homes and Communities program. Their website contains useful information and applications.     Another website I would recommend that you view is Visit the Government Grants. This website offers a list of all federal government grant programs. It would be a good idea to take some time and browse through this site to see what it offers and the qualifications for application.

    If you don't qualify for a grant you may qualify for down payment assistance. They are sometimes easier to obtain.
