Proof of income and employment

by Patrick M.
(West Virginia)

What if I am self employed? If I am self employed then how do I show my income? Can I use my tax return? What if I was in school for a few years and did not have much of an income But I had a steady income before I went back to school?

Proof of Income for Self-Employed
by: Jeffrey

Hey Patrick,

Thank you for coming by my website and asking your questions.

When a person is self-employed, the only real proof of income you can provide is the most recent 2 years of tax returns.

The only problem with that is in most cases, as a self-employed person, people have very little income to show since they write off expenses, depreciation etc.

Lenders look at the most recent two years of income so I'm not sure how to answer your question about steady income before going to school.

However, many lenders look at school in a favorable way since people use it to improve their lifestyle and income earning possibilities.

You did not really give me many details to go on so I hope this helps answer your questions. Feel free to ask more questions and/or offer more details about when you went to school and the job(s) you held etc.

Please pay it forward and share this FREE resource with others to help your friends and family.

Regards,

Jeff
