Most would know that a first time buyer of a home has never bought a home before. But you may not realize that you can also be considered a first time house buyer if you haven't owned a home for at least three years.
Why is this important?
That means, if you have owned a house for three or more years, you can qualify for those special programs offered to first time buyers.
There is an exception to not owning a home in three years. There are specially designated areas that are set aside to qualify no matter how long it has been since you owned a home.
You will have to investigate if the house you want to purchase fits in those areas or not. Of course there are limitations involved in qualifying, so you will have to investigate these.
That is why it is good to find a real estate agent who is familiar with first time home buyer programs and their requirements. The ones listed above are good and are willing to help.
Check out our first time home buyer programs page for a detailed explanation.
As a first time home buyer, you may want to investigate the various FHA Loan products to find which one fits your needs the best.
