Unfortunately, the State of New Hampshire no longer offers a New Hampshire first time home buyer grant program for its residents. But it does have assistance for their first time buyers.
Their assistance program is called "Home Flex Plus." This program provides down payment or closing cost assistance up to 3% of the loan amount.
What is cool about this program is they don't have a repayment requirement. That means no monthly payment. So even though they don't call it a grant....it feels like a grant. Although you must stay in the home for 4 years for the loan to be forgiven.
You may also want to consider the "Home Preferred Plus Program." It has a 3% cash assistance to help with the down payment and closing costs.
There are some other cool program for residents of New Hampshire as well. Some of them are for rehab of a home. Depending on whether you are looking at a fixer upper or not you may want to check out what is available in that arena as well.
One program that you may want to see if you qualify for is their "Home Start Homebuyer Tax Credit Program." This credit gives you a reduction in the federal taxes you pay by using a percent of the interest you paid on the mortgage as a credit. That's quite a savings, so check it out.
You should visit the New Hampshire website. to determine your eligibility.
In addition, the federal government offers grant assistance for first time home buyers in New Hampshire. This program is maintained by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is called the Homes and Communities program.
Their website contains useful information and applications. The website for the grant program maintained by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development can be visited by using this link, HUD Grant Information.

Do your planning well. When you look for assistance for the down payment and closing costs, they take lots of time. Sometimes sellers get very impatient because of this. So allow yourself plenty of time to obtain these funds.
One client I had took close to 90 days to get their funds. We had to keep extending their purchase agreement. Fortunately, the seller was willing to wait. I just want to make you aware of this so you don't get discouraged.
Now you know about New Hampshire first time home buyer grants. You still need a mortgage that works with them. Finding a lender who understands your needs can be difficult. The FHA loan products are very flexible and are the best for this.
Perhaps a grant is not available in your state. Or you do not qualify for one. Don't get discouraged. If you still want to save money, check out this page that discusses the zero down payment program.
Otherwise, you may want to look at programs that have low down payment requirements.
